Counseling & Safe Talk Spaces

Creating a safe Space for Every Young Voice

At Kibra Youth Network (KYN), we believe that no young person should ever have to carry their struggles in silence. Many youth in Kibera and across the world face challenges that affect their mental health — from poverty, unemployment, and family pressures to trauma, violence, and stigma. These experiences can leave them feeling isolated, misunderstood, and without a safe place to turn.

That’s why we created our Counseling & Safe Talk Spaces — safe, welcoming, and judgment-free environments where young people can speak openly, be truly heard, and receive the support they deserve.

In these spaces, we encourage youth to:

  • Share their personal struggles without fear of criticism.
  • Access professional guidance and coping strategies.
  • Build trust and confidence in themselves and others.
  • Begin the journey of healing, growth, and resilience.

We know that a single conversation can spark hope. A single safe space can save a life. And with the right support, every young person has the power to overcome challenges and thrive.

Why Counseling Matters

Mental health challenges such as stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma are often overlooked in underserved communities. Many young people in Kibera and beyond face stigma when seeking help.
Through counseling, we:

  • Provide emotional relief and a listening ear.
  • Help youth build resilience and healthier coping strategies.
  • Create awareness that mental health is just as important as physical health.
