Projects that change lives in Kibera
Kibra Youth Network runs hands-on projects with and for the young people of Kibera. Here are four we are proud of.
Kibra News Network (KNN)
Our own community newsroom. KNN publishes verified news from Kibra, Nairobi, Kenya and the world, a jobs board with checked vacancies, and a monthly newsletter, The Kibra Brief.
KYN Learning Platform
Free online courses in graphic design, photography, videography, digital marketing, social media and more. Video lessons on your phone, a trainer on WhatsApp, and practical days at our Kibera centre.
Poultry Farming
A working poultry project where young people learn to raise chickens, keep records and sell eggs and meat, so they leave with a trade that earns.
Clothes Charity Donation Drive
We collect clothes from people who have more than they need and hand them out free in Kibera, together with a hot meal for the children who come.
Skills that earn
Poultry Farming
Poultry is one of the fastest ways for a young person in Kibera to start earning. Our project gives trainees hands-on time with real birds: feeding, housing, vaccination, hygiene and keeping simple records.
Eggs and chickens are sold in the community, and the income goes back into the project so the next group can learn too.
Give what you do not need
Clothes Charity Donation Drive
Many families in Kibera cannot afford new clothes, while many homes in Nairobi have clothes they never wear. Our drive connects the two. We collect clean, wearable clothes from donors and give them out free at community days in Kibera.
On the day, our volunteers also cook and serve a hot meal for the children who come. Every item donated goes straight to someone who needs it. Nothing is sold.
