Kibra Youth Network does not work alone, and does not want to. The schools, churches, mosques, clinics and youth groups already rooted in Kibera know their people far better than any outside program ever will. Our best work happens when we bring what we have to what they already do.
For a school, that might mean a weekly Safe Talk Space for students after class, mental health awareness sessions for teachers and parents, or help spotting students at risk of dropping out and connecting their families to bursaries through our Take a Child to School program.
For a church, mosque or community centre, it might mean hosting a peer support group, running a creative skills workshop for young people nearby, or joining forces on a clean-up or a leadership forum. For a clinic, it usually means referrals in both directions, so a young person who needs medical care gets it, and one who needs someone to talk to is not sent home with nothing.
What we bring is trained facilitators, a tested way of running safe spaces, and young people who are already part of the work. What we ask for is a room, a regular time, and a contact person who cares about the outcome.
Partnerships start small. One session, one group, one term, then we look together at what worked. Since 2021 that approach has helped us reach more than 500 young people, many of them through partners like these.
If you run a school, group or organisation in Kibera and want to explore working together, write to info@kibrayouthnetwork.org.
